When Kate was dating Prince William, someone in the British tabloid press referred to Kate and her younger sister, Philippa or “Pippa,” a nickname that has stuck for her, as the “wisteria sisters.” Wisteria is a type of flowering vine that climbs ferociously on whatever it’s attached to. Pippa’s friends have been known to say she is the competitive one of the two. Like her sister Kate, she attended college in Scotland, but at the University of Edinburgh.

In 2008 the Daily Mail featured a family profile of the Middletons. It stated that Kate always felt Pippa would eclipse her socially and was jealous of her. The family thought Pippa would be the one with the spectacular wedding.

A couple of weeks prior to her sister’s engagement announcement, Pippa gave her first interview. She promoted her family’s party business called, appropriately enough, “Party Pieces.” Many of the courtiers feel Pippa and her family are profiting from the Royal Family ties. Nevertheless, thanks to Pippa’s publicity, Party Pieces has seen a dramatic growth in its business. In February 2010, Pippa attended London’s Fashion Week at the Issa catwalk show. She’s been known to mingle with a number of A-listers at London social events such as Rod Stewart and Trudy Styler (Sting’s wife). Britain’s society magazine Tatler named Pippa Middleton as the most eligible person in 2008.

The burning question on the minds of the British press and people is will Pippa Middleton be her sister’s lady-in-waiting? Her career as a party planner and socialite status certainly give Pippa the right qualifications for this royal honor. Basically a lady-in-waiting is a personal assistant to the Princess or Queen. These roles are oftentimes given to close friends or relatives. Their duties include handling personal correspondences and traveling with the Royal party on official visits. Kate Middleton as a princess-to-be and her sister Pippa as a possible lady-in-waiting is the perfect match.
